We are no longer on Earth. Even the harshest areas on Earths surface are nothing compared to our new planet. The atmosphere is not breathable. There is no liquid water. There are few deposits, because there are few mechanisms to create those deposits. Our survival is completely dependent on our technology. We have brought a limited supply of materials from Earth, thanks to the weight and monetary budget of the mission; hopefully, a good selection. This includes as much knowledge of the old Earth as we managed to gather, also including a huge sampling of Earth organisms; although we do not have the technology to reproduce them as of yet, one day, these could be used to reseed the planet with Earth life.

At the core of all our efforts is efficient, sustainable power generation, combined with state-of-the-art recyclation. Our farms will originally use the waste products, most of our infrastructure will be dependent on electricity (which our power plants can provide in large amounts for relatively low cost). Over time, however, we will need to replenish the losses due to inefficiency, and expand our population and industrial base to ensure the survival of the human race. At the beginning, one catastrophe could devastate all our efforts and bring us to exctinction. But one day, there will be dozens of cities all over the planet. Maybe, one day, we will transform this planet into a new Earth, with oceans, breathable atmosphere and plentiful life.

But for now, the key to survival is in technology. Robotics are necessary for mining, manufacture, construction, exploration… There is few of us.

We are the last ones of our kind, and of Earth. We MUST survive.
